Don’t Care About What Others Think

For so many people, external expectations, rather than internal desires and interests, play a pivotal role in determining their career path.  Parental influence, cultural expectations, social pressures, and perceived practicality often outweigh other concerns when choosing a career.  While those considerations can definitely lead someone down the right path and into a career that brings them joy and is a good fit for them, in many cases, they lead to a life of regret, overwhelm, exhaustion, and feeling stuck.  Many people who choose their career for those reasons feel miserable and want a change.

Businessman Gary Vaynerchuk often challenges his listeners to not care about the opinions of others and to stop caring about what others think.  Taking Gary’s advice allows you to free yourself from the job you don’t like and to enter down a career path that you find exciting and that makes more sense for you and your goals.  If you don’t like your job, then don’t feel like you need to remain trapped and stuck there forever.  Have the courage to rise above what was expected of you, stop caring about what other people think, and commit to doing what makes the most sense for you.

As the late great Steve Jobs said during his commencement address at Stanford in 2005, “Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life.”  Instead, live your life, and pursue the career path and opportunities that make the most sense for you.  Don’t continue to dread going to work every day because of how much you hate your job.  Stop caring about what others think, and do the right thing for you, your future, your happiness, your family, and what you hope to accomplish.
